Ian Johnston watched friends race for a few years, then got suckered in. He has been racing since the start of the 2008 season, where he placed, essentially, dead last. He has since proceeded from dead last to something like 2 up from dead last, thanks to some DNFs and the occasional non-DNF engine malfunction on the part of others. Even so, as of mid 2009, he’s gone from 2:35 laps around Pacific Raceways in Seattle, to 2:14 laps, which he’s willing to call sufficient progress.
His bike is a scruffy-looking 1972 CL175 with hot-shit carbs that feed a weak motor, but that may change, oh yes…
